The ritual of spring. Seed Planting sweet peas , carrots and radish.

 

Every spring these three seeds go in the ground first;  Sweet Peas, carrots and radish.  It is those seeds that germinate quickly , can tolerate cooler temps and mature quickly.  These are the seeds that you start with your young children to introduce them to the wonder of nature and fresh food.  I plant these every year to jump start some enthusiasm in getting in the garden. 

Peas you need to put on a trellis.  This year I used the limbs from the confederate rose that was pruned back.  The limbs of a confederate rose are straight and dry hard enough to support the fine runners of a pea plant.  The limbs are also free with exception of the sun and water investment from mother nature and growth energy from the host plant.

The peas with in a week have broken the ground and sprouting. 

We added some raised beds this year.  Found these on my favorite on line shopping app.  Amazon.  

These raised beds are galvanized , and do not have bottoms.  They measure 8 foot by 3 foot by 12 inches tall.  The bottoms are lined with heavy duty landscape fabric and card board.  Hopefully that will hold the tree roots at bay for a year or two.  

Along with the carrots and radish seeds I added some sprouting garlic heads.  I may regret that but for now they are growing and adding some green to the garden.

power tools...35 bails and time...home face lift...Curb appeal Mobil home paradise

I am understating that the last year has been a challenge and a lot of things here at the Red Tin Inn have been neglected especially the yard.  Our oldest Son went in to kidney failure March of 2017 and is now going to dialysis three times a week .  He also gained a tracheotomy and it drastically changed our nursing support.  We normally had 56 hours of nursing and roughly 35 hours were filled most of the time.  Leaving more time for yard work..house work and sometimes play.  With our new situation we went to 42 hours of nursing support and only 20 hours of it has been filled .  The combination of less support and the responsibility of getting him to dialysis three times a week with support while in clinic leaves little time for other things.  When you are on the Journey that we are you learn to reinvent your self.  To let go of things that you once thought were important or of things that are to exhausting to hold on to.  To let go of people  that are toxic and of your own convoluted expectations of family and friends.  Although someone looking into our lives may think it is complicated it actually is not.  Since we do not resemble the "Jones" we could care less if we are keeping up.  We take care of the important things and enjoy the simple things.  

And one of the simple things we love is our surroundings.

So one of the first things we did to start to clean this place up was removing the banisters on the porch.  Never have I seen Mr. RTI more excited about power tools.  

"I think we should remove the banisters from the porch they are hard to keep clean and are eyesores"

10 mins later!

Destruction is so much more fun!


The steps also had to be replaced....as in law suit waiting to happen....
25 years of moisture took its tole....

So we opted for a board walk kinda feel....
and I am loving the look of no banisters.....

Yuck....

Yard is a wreck but we are on our way!

Several months later....we are closer to what I had in mind....

35 bails of pine straw later...

We are not finished....still have to address the banisters under the pergolas ...we want to extend some deck area so budget says to wait as well as time....

But from this angle it looks pretty good!

Taking the time to pick up, clean up and remove physical clutter makes it a little easier to remove mental and emotional clutter. It is worth the physical effort..a little sweat a few bails at a time and a small section at a time has paid off mentally.  This view makes morning Tea so much more enjoyable.
