This is not my original idea this I stumbled across while playing around on Pinterest.
The idea is simple however it is a little labor intensive but very much worth it.
In the planning stages of this project I was a little disappointed at the cost in finding T-shirts cheaply then:
Look what good will sells! These are the bottoms cut off of t-shirts and packaged for a buck! Yea most of the work is done and there has to be 10 shirt bottoms in here. So for around 3 bucks or less you have the materials to make your scarf.
Notes to self: 6 layers makes a nice full scarf, stagger the length will also make a fuller scarf and test your fabric so that you have the nap in the correct direction so that the fringe will role.
Stack your remnants with the nap in the direction so that when you cut a strip and pull it the fabric edges roll up. This makes a nice finished look.
I made this scarf just shy of 70 inches so it is long. I staggered the layers, sewed a seam down the center with my stitch length at the shortest setting.
I cut roughly half inch to 1/4 inch fringe on the edges leaving an uncut center of roughly a little under an inch.
I then threw it in a pillow cover..ie a pillow case that zips shut and washed and dried it.
Love the results!
This is a a great rainy day project and one that kids may enjoy...What little or big girl can't reisit a washable BOA!
Merry Chirstmas!
