French Couch to French Settee using Annie Sloan Chalk paint in antique white!

Now if you are a Anne Sloan fan This is the ultimate find.  A french  style reproduction Settee.  This is, lets go to the yard sale and see what they have, find.  It was stained and they would not come off...So lets paint it....with Anne Sloan Old White.

A lot of work  but it will be a show stopper....

First coat was watered down  an put on wet fabric.....

The stains still bled through...and a couple of more coat of ASCP two diluted 2 full strength..it still bled through.

The fix was one I will resort to first when I have fabric of this nice a quality with this heavy of a stain....Rustoleum Maxx primer for plastics.  Worked like a charm...and you cannot tell that it is under the paint...wish I had used it first..it would have saved a lot of paint....and cash...

She is finished with her distressing and I will say wow!  Now this was not an easy Job!  it took 80-100 woman hours.  little over a can of ASCP and a lot of elbow grease.

I used also Anne Sloan clear wax as well...I recommend using a good quality wax brush to work it into the surface and buff well ......
Love all of the details!

Even the back is a show stopper.

Stunning!  too bad I have a house full of MEN..so it is in the Window at Antiques and Fine Consignments of Camden.

Will I do this again....Heck yes...However I do not think I will ever find another Settee like this again....

  1. Wow! Such a beautiful transformation! How does the fabric feel once painted; is it soft and does it crack after being sat upon? Would love to give this a try, possibly.
Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY!
    Blessings,

    1. No the paint will not crack..because I used Anne sloan chalk paint....I also used her clear wax and the fabric feels like leather....and will be come more supple the more you sit on it....Thank you for the lovely comment and for stopping by.

    1. Oh Poppy I guess I would consider how tight they are.and how difficult it would be to paint in the pleats they leave. make sure you keep us updated on your progress...

  6. I have an old telephone seat/table with yucky velvet fabric. I would love to do this to it. What I would like to know is how long the paint takes to dry?

    1. If the telephone table seat is square...a simple shape it may be easier to recover it ..however if you want to paint...I would make sure I had 24 hours between coats to dry....Please let me know how it turns out...

  12. Wow Sheryl, this is absolutely breathtaking! Like you say, a lot of work; but well worth it. The settee itself has such pretty lines and the paint brought them out beautifully! Thanks for sharing with SYC. Happy to be a new follower.

  13. That is GORGEOUS!! Wowza! How is it to sit on? Is it crunchy? Or does the paint rub off? I have seen painted fabric on furniture and always wondered how the wear on it is.

    1. no the paint will not rub off , the paint has been allowed to cure and no it is not crunchy chalk paint does not have any poly in it..it dries flat and because it was designed to make distressing furniture easy it dries soft but adheres wonderfully. I put a paste wax over the paint after a light sanding and it feels like leather...it will wear like leather with age and use it will look and feel better...and thank you for the wonderful comments! Happy Thanksgiving!
